Priming and predicates

Falabellas may be offered for studbook admission and priming. The following categories may be considered for a premium:

  •     foals
  •     yearlings and two-year-olds
  •     mares of 3 years and older
  •     stallions and geldings of 3 years and older.

Premiums to be achieved:

  •     first premium = Gold >= 80,
  •     second premium = Silver < 80 and >= 70,
  •     third premium = Bronze < 70 and >= 60.

The obtained premium results  will be listed on the back of the BVI by means of a stamped sticker on which the date and year are mentioned.

If the horse did not obtain a premium at the studbook inspection, it can be presented for inspection again later and be awarded a premium. In that case, the highest result will count and the score of the previous inspection, where no premium was obtained, will be invalidated. The results will, however, be kept by the studbook in connection with possible value for research into the breed with regard to maturity.

Other primings and predicates

Foal priming:

As foals, yearlings, and two-year-olds, Falabellas may participate in the inspection and receive a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd premium. These later count towards the star predicate.

Main studbook predicate:

The main studbook predicate is for all Falabella horses that have achieved a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd premium but not enough youth premiums. Because of this, they are included in the main studbook. It is a requirement that they also undergo veterinary inspection.

The horse will receive a main studbook predicate in exchange for the existing foal predicate. This is referred to as a studbook mare or a studbook stallion. If the horse has not been inspected, it will remain in the foalbook.

Starpredicate:

The horse must have achieved at least 2 juvenile premiums (1st premium/gold or 2nd premium/silver) and be listed in the main studbook with a first premium (gold) to be eligible for the star predicate. Subsequently, this will be mentioned on the BVI. One then speaks of a star mare or a star stallion.

Crown predicate:

The crown predicate can be awarded to star mares and star stallions on the condition that the star mare concerned has at least 2 living foals and the star stallion concerned has at least 10 registered foals. The findings of the offspring are therefore not relevant for the crown predicate; only registration with the EFS is sufficient. This will then be stated on the BVI. This is referred to as a crown mare or a crown stallion.

Preferent predicate:

  1. A crown mare can obtain the preferent predicate on the basis of the results achieved by her offspring according to the following points. The points of the offspring are added up and a minimum of 50 points must be obtained. Only the number of points for the highest obtained priming or predicate counts.
  2. Descendants of a crown stallion must score at least 100 points.

The following offspring are eligible for the preferent predicate:

  •     Foal premium: 2 points
  •     Yearling premium: 4 points
  •     Two-year-old premium: 6 points
  •     Third premium (bronze): 8 points
  •     Second premium (silver): 10 points
  •     First premium (gold): 12 points
  •     Star predicate: 15 points
  •     Crown predicate: 20 points
