-      What about ACAN dwarfism tests from before December 1st, 2021?

In February 2022, we received an email from VHL Genetics that the test for Dwarfism ACAN (P306) had been modified based on new scientific insight from 2018. This was a modification of the tests for ACAN D3 and ACAN D4. The new test has been applied since 1 December 2021. We would therefore like to draw your attention to the fact that results of tests carried out before 1 December 2021 may incorrectly indicate that your Falabella is not a carrier of dwarfism. Re-testing is then recommended. Please check the test result certificate for the date on which the test was performed. If you would like more information, please contact the EFS board.

-     I have lost my horse's passport, what now?

If you have lost the passport of your horse, you must request a duplicate passport.
In this case, have the vet re-read the chip. He/she will then fill in an identification and registration form (I&R) for you. Send this to the studbook office together with the application form for the issue of a duplicate or replacement passport. After payment of the invoice, you will receive the passport marked 'Duplicate'.

-     I bought a Falabella and the previous owner lost the studbook document, can I just get a duplicate document?

No, not just like that. With your request for a duplicate paper, you must submit copies of the first 4 pages of the horse passport.
The studbook office will always contact the last registered owner to ask whether a duplicate paper may be issued.
If the invoice is paid, you will receive the paper with the indication 'duplicate'.

-     How do I get a medical appendix in my passport?

If your passport does not have the medical insert by 1 January 2010, you will have to apply for a new passport.
To apply for the new passport, you must send the application form together with the old passport to the studbook office. If the animal is microchipped, the applicant must sign the form. If the animal is not microchipped, both the applicant and a veterinarian must sign. An application form can be obtained from the studbook office. The new passport will state that the horse may not be slaughtered for human consumption. This also applies to duplicate passports. The costs for a new passport are €50.00 for members and €65.00 for non-members.

-     Is it wise to send the passport by registered mail to the studbook office?

The costs for a duplicate are quite high, so it is certainly worth considering sending your passport to the studbook office by registered mail. The passports are also sent back by registered mail from the studbook office. You will be charged for the costs.

-     My Falabella has died, what now?

First of all, of course, this is very unpleasant news, and we would like to wish you much strength!

When your (with the EFS registered) Falabella passes away, please send your passport (preferably indicating the cause of death) to our studbook office. On it, you can indicate the date of death, so that we can enter it into our system. When we have processed it, we will invalidate and eventually destroy the passport.
It is possible, however, that the passport will be returned to you if you wish. Please mention this when you send us your passport. In this case, we will register the death of your Falabella and invalidate and return the passport to you.

-      Which ponies and horses can I register with the EFS?

Only 100% purebred Falabellas can be registered with the EFS.

-      I would like to breed a foal but I don't know which stallion is right for my mare. Who can help me?

The EFS has a breeding committee that can advise you about which approved or recognised EFS stallion suits your mare best. Would you like to make use of this service? Please contact us so that we can help you further.
